First Cold

Our little guy has his first cold, which includes a cough and some wheezing. This photo was taken this morning - just missed the smile!  We went to the doctor on Saturday to have it checked out since it did get worse from when I spoke to the doctor on Thursday.  We have to give him nebulizer treatments 4x a day, which so far he is not liking the mask.  My sister showed me a cheater method by using the mouthpiece that adults use and just holding it in front of his nose/face, which seems to work better.  he is constantly pulling the mask so he's probably still getting the same amount of medicine...but I did read that when they cry they are taking deeper breaths and getting more of the meds so we are going to give the mask another try.  Meanwhile, I have to work today (postponed football banquet due to the bowl game in December), so John will be on nurse duty alone all afternoon and evening.  I feel terrible about leaving him!  Fortunately he does not have a fever, and he is still eating, and he is still relatively HAPPY, though today he seems to be a little more out of it, as he's been napping for a while.  Hopefully the rest is what he needs to kick this thing.  We knew it was inevitable that he'd get sick once we put him in daycare, so I'm trying not to stress too much about it.  You just feel so bad for him, even though he's not really complaining!  And he has been sleeping okay - we have him in the bouncy seat in his crib to keep him on an incline.  He moves around too much in the crib for us to elevate the mattress - he'd end up with his head lower at several points during the night if we did that.
I worked my first basketball game on Wednesday night and was not home to put TJ to sleep - John did fine though, but I missed seeing my little man!  I also figured out that 6 month size clothes are to be worn NOW, not to be pulled out when he turns 6 months.  Duh!  I thought 3-6 month sizes were for now...which they are, but so are 6 months.  Kind of annoying, like sometimes you might wear a size 6 but in this brand it's an 8 and in this brand a 10.  Glad I realized this now however, as he's got a ton of 6 month size clothes that are so adorable, and we would have missed the boat entirely if I waited until he was outgrowing the 3-6 month sizes.

Here is Tommy from last weekend in his bumbo seat - I think that's what it is called!  They told us he was sitting very well in the ones at daycare, so we pulled ours out.  And he likes it because of the toys and activitiies.  And yes, he is wearing his Illinois outfit...he'll have plenty of Rutgers shoved at him since Mommy works there, but we had to give a shout out to the Beurskens' home team too...and while he has the Illinois onesie and sweatsuit - that's the next photo - he has a Rutgers onesie polo shirt and another onesie, along with a bib and socks.  Pretty sure he'll be at a Rutgers game before an Illinois game!

Doesn't he just look like he's modeling here - except for the scratch on his left cheek...those fingernails grow like crazy - just like Mommy's!  He is actually pretty good about letting me cut them even when he is awake, though I prefer to do it when he is sleeping.

He did actually spit up all over the Illinois onesie after the picture in the bumbo was taken, so we had to change his shirt and then zip him up in his sweatsuit!

Here's our big boy in his high chair, enjoying some oatmeal.  Some days he is better than others with his "solids."  He gets rice cereal in the morning at daycare, and oatmeal at night when we get home.  Every day is different though as to how hungry he is, so we don't force it.  But one night this past week he actually ate everything I gave him, which is usually 1 ounce of formula mixed in with the oatmeal.  Tails is already stalking out the situation though to get scraps when I'm not looking I think!

And here's another picture from Saturday this weekend, when we decided the cough was worse and we needed to go to the doctor.  He's still smiling!  Such a sweet little boy.  I have some videos that I want to post too but have been unsuccessful for some reason because I upgraded something here on blogger and there is no video upload option that I can find.  A lot of the videos we have were taken on the Flip, so I may have to see if I can upload through that software.

I hear Tommy stirring because it's about time for another bottle...and I want to spend a little time with him before leaving for work.  Please keep him in your prayers that he kicks this cold/cough/wheezing soon!
