John's birthday was last week, February 4th. When I asked Tommy the day before whose birthday was tomorrow, he actually said, "Daddy's!" I'm not sure how he knew that, since I hadn't told him...perhaps Daddy had been reminding him?
Tommy loves birthdays...a few kids at school have had birthdays recently as well as one of his teachers, so he was very excited to sing and eat cupcakes.
For Daddy's birthday, we kept things pretty simple; he got a Keurig variety pack of coffee and a storage drawer to put them all in, as they are not the easiest things to stack without constantly falling over in the cabinet. And a new orange shirt, to go along with Tommy's and of course the balloon, featured below. Since it was a Saturday night we knew going out to eat was going to be crowded, and we ended up at Ruby Tuesday's after a fail for Longhorn Steakhouse (people were waiting outside) and Carraba's (we drove around and could not find it, only to discover the place was dark and closed, as a few in NJ did recently shut down). Tommy had fun pointing out all the items at the salad bar while we waited. He asked me once for each item "what's that?" and then a few minutes later I asked him to tell me where certain things were, and unbelievably he was able to do that with every single item...he is just too smart, and has a memory like his Meema and Mommy.
Overall, he was very good, though was just starting to lose it when they finally seated us, and he chowed down on some snacks we brought with us just in case, which meant he did not do great with his dinner, other than the french fries. And thank goodness for crayons and a portable DVD player!

Every birthday needs a balloon, according to Tommy

Wearing the orange (though I prefer red)

Is that a present for me?

Got himself into it, and determined to get himself out of it

The look seems to say, "I won...let's do battle again!"
