Baby Lilly

Tommy's Oma and Aunt Maria came to visit a few weekends ago when we were having Tommy's 3rd birthday party.  They arrived on a Friday, and the next day Tommy and I drove them out to Brooklyn so we could all meet and visit with the newest Beurskens cousin, baby Lilly!  We had a lot of fun figuring out and looking up on Google who was a first cousin, a second cousin, a cousin once removed! Lilly's mom Mia is Maria and John's first cousin. That makes Tommy Mia's first cousin once removed.  And Tommy and Lilly are second cousins. Now that I understand it all has to do with what level of grandparents you share, it makes much more sense to me!

Lilly was born on August 15, 2012, so we got to see her when she was exactly one month old.  She is so tiny - we thought Mia was carrying a doll when she came out to greet us! The thing is, Lilly is a doll - she was so quiet the entire day, and was very accommodating as she was passed around for each of us to hold. We went to lunch at a cute little brick oven pizza place and ate outside behind the restaurant. I was so proud of how well Tommy did, especially since he only napped for about the last 20 minutes of the 90 minute drive to Brooklyn! He sat patiently, took in the surroundings, and had fun building towers with the sugar packets on the table.  He did so well eating the pizza (which he LOVED, as did I!), that we had to order a second one, because I ate what was left because he rarely has more than one piece, and he wanted more! I had his DVD player with us, but surprisingly, I did not have to pull it out until we were pretty much done with the meal and were just sitting around chatting. We went back to the house that Mia and her husband just moved into about 6 months ago and hung out for a bit.  Tommy loves their dog Muppet, and really loved the nice big comfy bed he got to jump on.  He even got to play an accordian with Mia!

We had a great day in visiting with the cousins, and although we got a little lost getting out of Brooklyn even with my car's GPS and my phone's GPS, we made it home safe and sound, and Tommy got a good night's sleep before his big birthday party the next day!
