Growing Up

My sweet little boy is really growing up.  I remember being terrified when we started going up and down the stairs with him. I wasn't more than 2 inches from him.  Now, he's off and running on his own.  I'm still not far behind him, of course, but we do put the gate across the bottom steps when we are downstairs.  And go figure, when the gate is NOT up, Tommy will come to me and make me put it up.  Guess he knows it's much too tempting for him!

The most handsome boy in the world!

Escaping to the upstairs
We finished the 8 weeks of swimming lessons that we signed up for, and will be starting another 6 week class next Saturday, which will get us to early June, just in time for summer!  You might recall Tommy was miserable the first 2 weeks of swim lessons, crying the entire time.  This gradually improved with every class, as so many people assured me it would. This week, he discovered one of the inflatable kiddie pools in the garage.  He pointed to it and made his 'questioning' noise to me that means 'what's this?'  So I told him it was a pool...well, when we get out of the car to go in the house every night, he runs right over to it and says "Pool!" I'm thinking this summer will be a lot of fun!  Here he is at his last class, jumping into the pool from a sitting position.
Gotta love mama's expression and ginormous thigh.  I was a soccer player, in case you didn't know.

I think the balls in the pool have helped make swim lessons more enjoyable for someone

Apparently a ball is the trick item to get Tommy to use his arms in the pool
When John or I are home alone, we bring Tommy into the bathroom with us for safety reasons as well as so he is familiar with the potty and what it's for.  He likes to flush the toilet after we are done too, and directs me to wash my hands, and sometimes he likes to wash his hands.  He enjoys pulling a magazine or two from the holder in the bathroom...but the last few weeks, he only wants the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.  We have a subscription to SI, so we automatically get the issue...it doesn't bother me, and I think this is really funny that Tommy goes right for that magazine no matter which other one we offer him.  Even funnier, the back cover and inside back cover are ads for M&M's, and Tommy is suddenly obsessed with looking at them.  So while he might flip through the magazine to look at pictures (haha), it's the M&M characters that appeal to him!
