If You Let Him Build It....

...well, you'll see what happens...

Can you see that big smile on his face?

Thinking about the best way to do what he plans on doing...

I'm most amazed that our camera actually caught this awesome action shot!

Tommy admires his handiwork

Another great action shot...even captures the kick!!
Yes, that little boy has a TON of energy.  At church on Sundays, we have more people come up to us to comment on him...the big comment we seem to get is "how athletic he is!" When they call the kids up to the altar for the Our Father, Tommy of course wants to go, so he and I walk up together. I wish we had a camera on him to catch his act.  I swear some people sit up front hoping to catch him in action...we could sell tickets...interestingly enough, church has really been way overcrowded, as in no seats even in the cry room, the past several weeks! He has this impish look on his face, and he even looks around to see who is watching him...while Mommy stands off to the side. He will jump off the first level of the altar to the floor and then back up onto it several times. He knows he's on stage. One of the moms said he'll either be an athlete or an actor - he's got the talent to do both according to her!

Of course, with all this energy, there are some challenges.  Like bedtime, and trying to get Tommy to wind down at the end of the day and just chill.  Not an easy thing to do. He has to always be on the go.  My mom has said that from very early on when he started crawling and walking - he's a busy little boy, always wanting to DO something. Or the energy is sometimes misdirected...like last week, when we ended up with FIVE of these over TWO days:

These are incident reports from daycare.  He had 3 on Monday and 2 on Tuesday.  All of them were from the morning, and on each day, they all happened within an hour of each other, approximately between 10 and 11am. These are not the first ones we've had, by any means, but FIVE in TWO days, I was a little freaked out. But the teachers told me that this is common, especially at this age and especially with boys. They downplayed it when they had me sign the forms, but they do the forms so that in two years, if it's still continuing, we aren't surprised to hear, "this has been going on since he was 2!" Sometimes he hits a classmate, sometimes he pushes them, and twice he pushed kids into the wall or the door! I'm told he apologized immediately since the child usually cries, so he knows his actions hurt someone. The girls in the class seem so calm to me, and most of the boys do too, though one little boy, Alex, seems to be an energizer bunny like Tommy and I think the two of them fight over girls and try to establish territorial boundaries. Colin and Jackson seem to take it all in and observe and watch the action...though I know Colin and Tommy wrestle on the floor a lot with each other. The girls, however, are often the victims on these incident reports...but the teachers tell me that within minutes, they are all saying, "Tommy, come here," and giving him hugs and wanting his attention. So is my son the bad boy that girls are drawn to?

We do talk to Tommy before we leave school if we've had to sign any incident reports to try to find out what happened and why and to try to reinforce what the teachers said to him earlier about not hitting/pushing/insert whatever action here other people. So hopefully it's just a phase. And the fact that Tommy is an only child with no one to push him around or push around himself at home, may factor in to this whole situation. He doesn't have to share at home, and that seems to be at the root of some of the incidents that have taken place.

The rest of the week went fine, and there were no reports today, which means a full week of no reports since we are heading out of town for Thanksgiving weekend tomorrow!  Happy Thanksgiving!
