As I mentioned in the previous post, all 3 of us have been battling colds. With the Olympics coming to a close, and the fact that I have not really watched as much of it as I would like - at least at night when I'm home (we have a TV in our office now and all that's on in the afternoon is curling, so go figure, we've been watching that and when we have been lucky, the occasional hockey game!), I figured I would award medals to the three of us based on how well we are dealing with our illnesses. Tommy definitely gets the gold medal. He is still so happy and hardly complaining, though apparently he had a rough day at daycare yesterday, and since he was refusing bottles and crying a lot, John picked him up early and took him right to the doctor, where he was diagnosed with another double ear infection. Dr. Nito gave us a stronger antibiotic because this one appears to be worse than the other one. John did a good job getting Tommy to take a few bottles though last night - breaking the sessions up into 3 with 4 ounces each time. He woke up 2x before 1am needing his binky, but pretty much had a good night's sleep. I stayed home with him today just in case, and because we were supposed to get a lot of snow...looks like the worst of it will be tonight into tomorrow, so we'll see if we are home again tomorrow...but yes, a gold medal for Tommy.
I am awarding myself the silver medal, because I am the mommy, and we all know mommies usually do the brunt of the work just because they are mommies - even when they are not feeling well. I think John will agree other than Wednesday when John had to pick up Tommy and take him to the doctor because I was working, I've been doing most of the work while we've both been sick. He even said to me the other night when I got annoyed with him for going to bed without washing the day's bottles or dishes while I put Tommy to bed, "I think I'm sicker than you are." That night was probably when I was feeling the worst actually, so I wanted to throw something at him, but lucky for him Tails was sleeping on him so he was saved. But, I have to say, John is definitely sounding a lot worse than I am at this point, so yes, he technically IS SICKER THAN ME, but he still gets the bronze medal as far as being a model patient and not complaining. Sorry honey, I love you, but most men are not the model patients when they are sick. Fortunately for us, our son has been an excellent patient this time at least and did win a gold medal for the men! And I will give John credit, he did make up for Monday night - he got all the bottles washed from yesterday and made the formula for today's bottles before I got home from working the basketball game last night, which wasn't until 10pm - only 2 more games to work this next week!
And we are going to have a few inches of snow on the ground tomorrow so hopefully John is well enough to take care of that because Mommy does not want to have to shovel or try to figure out the snow blower! John does get a gold medal for dealing with the snow - he has not only cleared out our driveway but several of the neighbors who were in a pinch.
While we don't like Tommy being sick, I am grateful for the extra time with him at home. Dr. Nito told us that if he has 4 ear infections a year, it is considered a chronic condition. I had earaches as a child, though not ear infections as a baby. I also have a profound hearing loss in my left ear, which I've had pretty much my entire life, so I'm pretty used to it. Most people do not notice except if they try to say something to me on my left side and I say "I can't hear you" and turn my right ear to them. I only use the phone on my right ear and try to sit/stand on the left sides of everyone to accommodate for this.
The above pictures were all taken today. Tommy actually soothed himself to sleep for his naps which was great to witness. At night he has been doing that for a while, but today was the first time I was able to put him in the crib and not the swing or bouncy seat to take a nap, though at daycare they put him in the crib all the time they tell us. The blue teddy bear you see is in the running to be his "soothy" item I think. He will take it from me when he goes in the crib and hold onto it, and more often than not, it ends up next to his face as shown in the picture. I do, however, move it once he is asleep, as I'm still nervous he might end up with it blocking his nose or mouth if he rolls onto it. Hopefully our next report is a healthy one!
Sorry to hear you are all sick again. Hope you will feel better soon. Hope Tommy's ear infection will go away soon and stay away. We haven't had any more snow. It's windy and raining, I guess that is the alternative. MalĂș is crawling like crazy. Gives her a new perspective. It's so funny how she follows us around. Hi to all. Love from all of us xx
