Stats for 5 month check up!

Mommy and TJ postgame Rutgers vs. Georgetown 2/14/10

Mommy and TJ pregame Rutgers vs. Georgetown 2/14/10

Due to the snowstorm last week, Tommy's 5 month check up had to be moved to last night, 2/15. Dr. Nito was very pleased to see how well Tommy was doing post ear infection/cough/cold and how HAPPY he was. Of course, Tommy was not too pleased when Dr. Nito went to remove some wax from his ears, but he got over it!

So, for the stats - Tommy weighed 15 pounds, 2 ounces, was 25 1/2 inches, and his head circumference was 43.5 cm. He was 25 1/4 last month, but the nurse thinks she may have mis-measured last month or he was squirming and we were off a little because his length did not change much, and both John and I can tell he is longer based on how some of his clothes are fitting. Dr. Nito is happy with how he is growing - he is in the 25th percentile for his weight. We were concerned because some days Tommy does not drink all of his bottles - but like everyone else who I've mentioned it to, Dr. Nito said some days he'll be more hungry than others. Sunday he only had about 25 ounces, but then yesterday he made up for it and had around 32 ounces. The doctor said he should get betwween 24-32 ounces of formula approximately, though occasionally he may take more or less. And now that we are giving him cereal and some veggies, that plays into things as well. Tommy has had peas, green beans, and now 3 nights of squash. Last night he had the entire container of squash - usually I put half of it in a bowl for him and then give him the other half the next night, but he was crying/screaming for more so I figured we'd see if he wanted more and he finished it all. And then for his last bottle, which was about 7.5 ounces, he drank it all and was sucking on my face and shoulder wanting more, so John made another 2 ounce bottle, which was perfect for topping him off. I have to say, when it's just one of us home with him at night it can be challenging when something like that happens - it's good we can tag team most nights, but occasionally each of us does have to do it solo, sometimes leaving him crying in his crib while we run down to make another small bottle.

On Sunday, Tommy went to his first Rutgers game - men's basketball vs. Georgetown, who was the #7 team in the country. We've had a difficult season here at Rutgers, but the men played incredible on Sunday and were in the game the whole time...and they ended up beating Georgetown - it was a great game, and Tommy was here for it! I was told by many people that he has to come to all of the games now as the good luck charm. It was a little loud and we did not have earplugs or muffs for Tommy, so we watched a lot of the game from upstairs behind the glass where the offices are in the arena. I was actually working this game, so I was doing a lot of running around, but John was here and so was my cousin Patrice, so Tommy was in good hands. With about a minute to go, we brought Tommy down to the court level so we could say he was down there for the game when it was all over. It was a little loud, and as you can see by the one photo, he got a little upset postgame with the noise. But he eventually drifted off to sleep in my arms as we stood around talking to people. Poor kid was exhausted as he was awake the entire game! He slept the whole ride home, woke as soon as we got home, had his last bottle, and went back to sleep for the night.
Tommy's teeth seem to be bugging him sometimes as he is chewing on the bottle nipples, so we bought him some teething feeders that you can put ice cubes or frozen fruit in for him to suck on. We also have a million other teething toys for him! Right now, I'm on the hunt for the right size porta-crib sheets for daycare. It is so frustrating, as none of the sheets I've bought fit the mattress. John finally measured it for me today and one of the teachers told me the brand that is supposed to work - Koala Baby Porta Crib Sheets from Babies R Us. I could not find them when we went to the store on Saturday, even though the website said they had them...and no one was able to help me. So I guess I will order them through the website and hope they work!
Thanks for checking in on our growing boy!

  1. He is getting sooo big! I am glad to hear her is done with that terrible cold-poor guy! I've had a cold all week so I am praying Cora doesn't get it! Good luck on the sheets, ugh!
