While Mom Was Away...

...someone decided to do something on the potty!  Happy Mother's Day from Tommy to Me!

Yes, I was away for Mother's Day weekend in Chicago.  My sister-in-law Maria planned a bridal shower for cousin Mia, and we turned it into a girls' weekend.  I flew out Friday afternoon and made it home Monday night, after my original flight was cancelled due to mechanical issues.  Thankfully I was able to fly standby only 2 hours later to get home to see my sweet little boy who I missed so much!  More on the girls' weekend later...back to the big news!

My mom, sister and niece stayed at the house with Tommy (and John, who worked all weekend), and on Sunday, after getting filthy dirty at the park, they decided to give him a bath.  My sister sat him on the little potty (which I always do too) while the bath water was running, and left my niece with him...and came back to find he'd peed in his potty!

It was probably just timing being right, because he's never done that for me before, even with the bath water running, and it was a bit earlier than he would normally have a bath.  Karyn (my sis) said that he kind of got scared and sat back down when they all started wildy clapping and cheering for him, as he didn't know what he'd done!  She took a picture of the potty with the pee to prove it to both John and I that he actually DID pee, and that's what you see above - the PROOF!

We are so proud of him, even if it wasn't intentional, and have been told by many that we need to offer a small reward when this happens in the future - maybe a mini M&M or something.  Or stickers.  I'm not forcing the issue though - he sat on the potty tonight for all of .5 seconds before wanting to get in the tub.

Tommy is 20 months old now too!  I just realized his birthday this year will be on 09-10-11.  How cool is that?  Probably cooler for someone being born ON that date, but still cool in my opinion.

He's saying more words every day - we finally got him to say "yes" on Tuesday randomly...everything has been "no" up to now.  We both survived my weekend away; I did not cry once (but I had plenty of wine all weekend), and while Tommy was looking for me, especially in the morning when he woke up and at night before bed, he really did fine.  My mom said he got needy and clingy at certain points, but my niece Alexis was the savior most of the time when that happened, as he loves her so much and has so much fun when she is around.  I noticed on Tuesday that one of his lower molars is coming in...can't really see any more progress on his eyeteeth like I thought last week though.  He's had a few night wakings as a result of the teeth and also a bit of a runny nose.  Another funny - he discovered his flip-flops and wants to wear them all the time.  He can't wear them to school as they don't allow open-toed shoes for safety reasons, so I've had to hide them.  He also is obsessed with these mismatched socks that my sister got him a while ago and wants to wear them all the time - though they go with NONE of his warmer weather outfits - they are fine under jeans, but they are also a bit thick and warm to be wearing now.

Quite funny to see the little guy's personality coming out more and more every day.  He tries to hug Tails all the time now, and Tails does cooperate up to a point.  Tommy also is giving kisses on the mouth now, and did great in his swim lessons again this past weekend with Daddy and Grandma.

When I finally made it home on Monday night, however, typical kid, he was entranced by the TV, so the vision I had of him running to me yelling "Mama, Mama!" did not quite happen.  But he did give me a hug and a kiss and even acted a little shy while I held him and he played with my necklace.

While it was good for this Mama to get a few days away with some good night's of uninterrupted sleep and no alarm clock going off, I'm happy to be able to hug and kiss my little sweetie pie as much as he'll let me!

And a Happy Belated Mother's Day to all the moms, moms to be, godmothers, aunts, etc. out there...especially to my mom and sister for spending their Mother's Day weekend with Tommy so I could go away for the weekend.  I am so lucky to have them!
