Our "Sweet T" is 21 months old today! Thanks Ashley for coming up with yet another nickname for our little guy...I was the random winner of her Imagine Canvas giveaway this week! I'm so excited! Click on the link to get the discount code to order from Imagine Canvas.
I still am in shock that we are closer to Tommy being 2 years old rather than being one. He is growing up so fast, and is now wearing 24 month size clothes, with a few random shirts and pjs in the 18 month size. He talks so much more every day, repeating many words that we tell him. He especially loves to point out the airplanes in the sky, using the word "airplane." What amazes me even more is his ability to understand things I tell him, like where to put his shoes. The other day, he took a pair of his shoes that were on my bed. I asked him to put the shoes away on the shelf in his dresser, where we keep his diapers. He walked to his room, opened the dresser, and put the shoes in, then closed the dresser. Granted, we used to keep all his shoes in there, so he knew that, but he had to understand what I instructed him to do!
Tommy's demeanor is still a happy-go-lucky one. He is always laughing - sometimes fake laughs because he's trying to be funny or just make us laugh, but he truly is a happy, happy kid. He likes things in their place. At the grocery store, if something has fallen off a shelf, he notices it, and wants me to pick it up and put it where it belongs. He is extremely good about picking up his toys and putting them away when asked at daycare and at home. Like many kids, however, he is possessive about HIS things when other kids are around. But he has responded pretty well when asked to share most of the time.
The Tomster does not have a ton of variety in his diet. It's still better than what I probably ate as a kid since I was a picky eater. Strawberries, pears, kiwi, french toast sticks, chicken nuggets, pasta, pizza, turkey and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, yogurt, applesauce. Yes, the veggies are MIA, I know that. I do sign him up for some of the lunches at daycare so occasionally I'll find out he's had some corn, or an apple. The boy loves his snacks though! Veggie sticks, cheese puffs (Pirate booty), crackers, goldfish, Cheerios, puffs, cereal bars and cookies are always in the pantry. Like his mommy and daddy, Tommy likes to graze, which we've been saying for a while now. And he does ask for things that we are eating sometimes...like the mozzarella sticks a few weeks ago! But he won't eat a piece of cheese by itself!
I've been unable to get an accurate count on Tommy's teeth - his upper and lower molars are pretty much in, they upper eyeteeth have broken through, and the last of his four bottom front teeth finally poked through a few days ago. Looks like the teeth between the 4 front ones and the first set of molars are soon going to be popping through as well.
Tommy sleeps between 9-11 hours a night, and between 2-3 hours during his midday nap when he's at daycare. At home, he might nap for 2 hours straight occasionally, but more often it's 2 one hour naps in the afternoon.
He's also discovered juice. I had picked up some small Sesame Street character juice boxes when they were on sale a while ago and had them in the pantry, maybe using one over a few months period for him. And he's had them at school at parties. But he discovered them all one day about 3 weeks ago, and that's all he wants to drink now! The boxes with straws are not the best things for toddlers who like to shake their drinks so they end up mostly on the floor, so I poured the box into one of his cups when we would give him some. And added water. We went through the boxes pretty quickly in 2 weeks, so I picked up some bottles...and now when Tommy asks for juice, he gets 1/4 juice and 3/4 water. He sees me add the water, and doesn't protest or complain...he doesn't know any better...YET. I know that day will come, however!
Daycare did the 18-24 month evaluation on Tommy this week, and he is exactly where he needs to be in all of the development areas. Although he hasn't "mastered" it, they commented that he had greatly improved with his self-feeding skills, which we feel is true too. Sure, more applesauce ends up on the bib or on his face some days, but he's using spoons and forks on his own, and also using both hands. Some days he's a bit lazier than others, and if you want him to eat, you have to help him out. Pretty sure that's a boy thing.
As you probably can tell, he is a very active little boy. He loves to run, kick balls, throw balls, and seems to be leaning towards using his left foot at least when kicking...and he's got some fancy footwork...since Mommy and Daddy both played soccer, we are hoping he's got some talent there!
One of my favorite things that Tommy does happens every morning after he wakes up. While I'm getting ready, Daddy gets Tommy out of the crib and brings him into our bed to sit and have his milk and watch TV. Tommy will pat my pillow and say, "Mommy," meaning he wants me to come and lay down and snuggle with him. Melts my heart, and of course I stop whatever I'm doing and snuggle up with him!
Here are two videos taken on Thursday night before bedtime - brushing Tommy's teeth and reading Goodnight Gorilla, one of his recent favorites! We had to capture his expressions - he is so funny...definitely explains why his evaluation this week had the comment, "Tommy LOVES dramatic play!" Happy 21 Months to my sweet little boy!
