Father's Day has come and gone...just like all of the other holidays and birthdays this year. We were pretty low key this year, as John had to work and since Tommy and I were in Chicago last year and he missed spending his first Father's Day with Tommy, we didn't make any plans.
Tommy's daycare had a Father's Day BBQ and bowling event on Friday afternoon. I met John and Tommy there since John had to go back to work.

On Saturday I volunteered to handle registration/check-in at a bowling event for the Eric LeGrand Believe Fund - the Rutgers football player who was paralyzed last fall. I was able to bring Tommy with me, and he was mesmerized by the Dora video I had playing on his mini-DVD player. Afterwards we went to my friend Denise's house to go swimming. At first, Tommy was reluctant to go in the pool, and had fun throwing EVERY single pool toy into the pool...as well as flip flops, and other random things. We finally got him in and he seemed surprised to actually enjoy the water - it was as if he didn't expect to. He had a blast splashing and watching the other kids while I carried him around. He showed off what he learned in swim lessons, went under water when we did Ring Around the Rosey, and jumped in from both sitting and standing positions. Since Tommy was enjoying himself so much, he didn't want to get out of the pool...and since he wouldn't go to anyone else, I was exhausted (John was working). Finally all of the other kids got out for food, so Tommy willingly joined the exodus from the water.

Sweet T took an almost 2 hour nap (woohoo - longest in weeks!) for me on Sunday afternoon, giving me a chance to catch a few rays on the deck and a little nap myself since John was at work (again!). Aferwards we played in the water table on the deck

After a jaunt to the grocery store, where Tommy proceeded to flirt with every female who walked by, we got home to grill some beef and shrimp kebobs for Daddy. Tommy declined to taste them and chowed down on ravioli. At least he ate - his teeth have been really bothering him the past week and he was DROOLING today like crazy, which has not happened in forever. I didn't have a bib with me when we were out, and he could have really used one! After dinner, Tommy gave Daddy a run for his money outside on the lawn.

Daddy's little caddy and flip-flop fetcher...just hope he doesn't wear socks with flippies like his father did tonight. Sigh.

Besides wishing John a Happy Father's Day, we also send our love to Pop-Pop, my dad, who we'll see next week hopefully. And on this first Father's Day since John's dad passed, we of course had Tommy's Opa in our thoughts today. Here are some of my favorite pictures of Tommy with his Pop-Pop and Opa:
