My, What Big Teeth You Have!

If you think this is a post about Tommy's teeth, guess again.

We're not sure whose teeth are in these pictures.  Or should I say, whose teeth imprints?

John did pick up on Monday night and had to sign off on the boo-boo report; another child bit Tommy.  This has happened two other times that I know of; one in his previous classroom, and the other since he's been in his current classroom.  I have my suspicions about who did it, but I honestly don't really care.  I really just want to know for the gossip! When I asked Tommy the last time who bit him, he said a name that sounded like someone in his class, and even several weeks later if I asked him "who bit you?" he would say that same name.  Interestingly enough, when John asked him in the car who bit him, he said the same name.  I'm not sure it is this child, however, because he/she is a little younger than Tommy so the full set of teeth marks kind of throws me off.  They could have all those teeth, I suppose, as I can't base it on Tommy since he was so late getting his teeth.

And of course daycare will not tell you.  Which again, I'm fine with. Soon enough he really will be able to tell us who bit him and we'll know for sure when he's really talking and making sense.  I know it's very normal for biting to occur at this toddler stage because the kids get frustrated not being able to express themselves verbally.  I don't remember what precipitated the other bites, but on the boo-boo report this last time, Tommy and the other child were playing with a toy together and got into a "mine" war...you know, where each kid wants the toy as his/her own.  Tommy ended up with it, and the other child, frustrated, bit him.  I found out the next day when I picked up that after giving Tommy ice and some TLC, and the other child a reprimand/timeout, both kids were back playing with each other like nothing happened.

Sure, if it becomes a chronic issue, we might need to address it further with daycare, but I'm not at all concerned about it.  Kids bite.  Kids hit.  The hitting has been one of our issues with Tommy lately.  Fortunately, it does not seem to be something he brings to daycare with him, as he knows they would not tolerate it.  And it's not that John and I tolerate it.  Tommy thinks he's being funny when he does it; it's rarely out of frustration when it happens.  But when we reprimand him, it makes him laugh even more and keep hitting. Trying to come up with another way for us to handle it the next time it happens.

Oh, and did Tommy milk it once he was home?  Absolutely.  As soon as I walked in the door, he came over to show me his boo-boo.  He had to have a band-aid on it too, which he removed within 5 minutes.  I picked up some Dora and Elmo band-aids and we use at least 2 a day on supposed boo-boos.  I humor him and put them on him...and then he takes them off shortly afterwards.  Whatever makes the boo-boo feel better!
