Tommy's Birthday Weekend Day #2

We held Tommy's first birthday on Saturday, September 11th, 2010. I started the morning off watching the memorial service at Ground Zero, something I've done every year, since it's a day that none of us who witnessed the events of that day 9 years ago will ever forget. It's also the day that we would have had Tommy delivered with a scheduled c-section if I hadn't gone into labor on the 9th. We kept the party low-key, about 20 people total, as I didn't want Tommy totally overwhelmed. Well, probably didn't want myself overwhelmed either...and I have to admit, it was still a crazy day. Thankfully everyone pitched in and helped out with setting up, cleaning up, etc. I don't feel like I got to sit and talk with everyone as much as I would have liked, but it was a beautiful, fun day that I will never forget!

Can you believe we got him a car for his first birthday?

Who else gets to drive their car in the house?

Hours later, and he's still in the car!

Tommy wasn't too sure about the balloons, so Mommy kept this one at a safe distance

Curious George cake that I did NOT make!

Tommy with Pop Pop and Opa...notice the Rutgers and Illinois cups in the appropriate hands?

Tommy wanted to show off to everyone how well he could drink from something other than a bottle

Look at that little smile as he sees his smash cupcake!

Someone wants MORE...

That's my boy - loving the chocolate!

Someone LOVES the pillow he got for his birthday!

Tommy had so much energy throughout the day and not surprisingly, did not nap well at all! Well, until he sat in his high chair for dinner (after cake but before presents) and literally fell asleep while eating. His eyes were shut but he kept opening his mouth for me to feed him! Unfortunately our camera battery died at that point, but I know some other folks got some great pictures! We were overwhelmed with everyone's generosity with the gifts for Tommy...I keep joking that I might have to clear the dining room area of furniture and make that a playroom because I am not sure where to put all the stuff!

Tommy went off to bed very quickly that night because he was so tired, but he never complained the entire day. This little boy has blessed us in so many ways - we are so lucky to be his parents!
