Football AND Golf

We have had some beautiful weather the past few days in New Jersey - a gorgeous fall weekend followed by somewhat WARM temperatures thus far in the week. We made the most of it and enjoyed getting outside a bit since some rain, including some rare October thunderstorms, are expected Wednesday.

Saturday Tommy enjoyed a day of football AND golf...isn't that what most men would prefer to have their weekends revolve around? Rutgers had a road game against Pitt on Saturday, which we watched on TV, and they unfortunately got blown out in the second half. It was a tough loss, as the team and the Athletic Department are still reeling over a devastating injury suffered by one of our players, Eric LeGrand, at last week's game against Army. Eric is paralyzed from the neck down after a hard hit on a kickoff return. We are all praying and believing that he will one day recover and walk again. When this happened, everyone knew it was not good right away, and no replays were shown on the stadium videoboards, but the internal monitors were running it, and it brought many to tears on the staff, myself included. When they got a shot of Coach speaking to his mother on the sidelines as they were getting him off the field, my heart broke for her. I cannot imagine the fear she must have felt. When your "baby" gets hurt you just want to fix it - whether it's a faceplant at daycare or a hard hit on the football field. Makes you realize that you can only protect your child so much, and you just have to pray that they will be safe with whatever choices they make in life or whatever sports they play, or whatever situations they might be in.

But we wore our RED and rooted for the Scarlet Knights. Tommy was more interested in playing with toys while John and I had the game on, but he did high five us a few times when we did manage to score. It was such a beautiful day, that we could not spend it all inside, so we played outside for a while and Tommy and I took a walk to the park. John decided Saturday was a good day to introduce Tommy to the game of golf, as you'll see from some of these photos.

Tommy's FAVORITE thing to do when we are outside - open and close the mailbox!

We are excited for Halloween coming up...Tommy will get to wear his costume THREE times this year. In my next post, I'll share pictures from the first wearing of the costume, so get ready for the big reveal of what Tommy is going to be for his second Halloween!

I love hearing that you play funny imaginative games too. Makes me feel slightly less odd. I'm your newest follower -- thanks again for saying hi and introducing yourself. No baby girl for me yet, but hopefully soon!!! I'll def. post on my blog when I have news. Blessings to you and your family. Lauren
