Removing and Adding Barriers

Today is a big day at the Beurskens house. We've been talking about converting Tommy's crib to the toddler bed for a few weeks since he is always trying to climb up the crib. I ordered the side rail a few weeks ago, and today, John made the change. I'm not sure if we need to make a big deal out of this tonight with Tommy, or just act like whatever and see how it goes, perhaps making it a nice, easy transition? He's been pulling his pillow out of his bed and wanting to sleep on the floor recently. I did actually let him sleep there one night because he refused to go to sleep. and he woke up during the night pretty upset. Cue lots of screaming, crying, yelling, etc. And that was just on Mommy and Daddy's part. Add to that jumping, thrashing, throwing of items for Tommy. He's also asked to sleep in our bed. Nope. I mean, yes, we've brought him in to our bed on occasion (night terrors) or when we have an hour or two before getting up for the day, but we all know everyone sleeps better in their own bed. So I'm hoping perhaps he was feeling confined and is thus ready for what he'll be facing tonight when we go to his room:


Gotta find where I put the bedskirt that we used until the crib had to be lowered all the way down!

 We know this could be the start of him climbing out of bed when he wakes up, but we won't be the first parents to deal with this.  Any suggestions for making this go smoothly are welcome!

We also decided to finally fence our yard in.  Honestly never thought we'd need to, but with how fast Tommy runs away from us when we are outside, and how curious this little boy is, it was kind of a no brainer. It was impossible to do any kind of yard work while we were outside this summer. My poor vegetable garden has been an overgrown mess of weeds most of the summer. Never mind the crop of veggies was terrible overall for us this season, but right now there is a weed in there that looks like a tree.  I'm mortified. But weeding was not on Tommy's priorities when we were outside...or watching Mommy weed while he played quietly nearby.  Because he'd take off towards the front before you even realized he was gone.  Thus, the newest "addition" to our house:

Our house is  a corner lot, but we're not right on the corner; so our pizza  pie shaped lot actually backs up to the fences of 3 neighbors on one side who are on the other street, and then our next door neighbor on the other side. So while I am grateful we did not have to fence our entire yard in (thus saving a lot of money), our property now has SIX different types of fences, including ours. The neighbor on the corner on the other street actually has a fence for their backyard and then a different fence for their side yard.

But ours does look pretty at least!

Hoping that Tommy accepts his new bed tonight...as well as the fence...he was not a fan of the gate in house that we had, and we recently took that down.  We'll make sure he understands that the fence is here to stay!
