Lion, Tiger and Bears....and A Cat

Oma and Meema were lucky enough to be with us on the first official trip to a zoo for Tommy - the Popcorn Park Zoo. It's a zoo for "special needs" animals.  John and I went there back in the late 90s, and deer would come right up to you as you walked around the park to eat out of your hands.  Thus the reason they were in the zoo. Other animals were circus performers who had gotten too old, and even a lion that was too domesticated to be released to the wild after police found him living with a drug dealer!

Tommy LOVES animals, and those at the zoo were no exception.  He was so excited with each new one we saw, from the snakes and birds to a lion, a tiger, and several bears.  We bought some popcorn and a bag o peanuts to feed the animals as we walked around. Due to the heat and the fact that it ended up being a lot more walking than I remembered, we let the two Grandmas sit on a bench after a while and Tommy and I roamed around.

Very excited about the pigs!

Can you tell from his shadow that this boy was high-kickin' it around the zoo?

Literally off and running to the goats

A bear!

Airplane!
As you can see above, since we were all hot and sticky, a dip in the pool was required when we arrived home...and then Tux and Tails got into a major brawl...can you sort of see the mustache Tux is wearing...which is actually fur from Tails!

Tux wears Tails' fur as a mustache
